I get by with a little help from my friends (or in the Conservative Party's case, Jack Layton and the NDP)
Oh! I finally understand why Stephen Harper was singing this famous Beatles song: He's singing about his newly found love for Jack Layton and the New Democrats! It all makes sense now! I mean, let's be honnest, Prime Minister Harper would never just sing and act all happy just for the Hell of it!
Michael Ignatieff: "(singing) What would you think if I sang out of tune...? (Spoken) He's (Stephen Harper) been out of tune for four years!"
Haha! Oh well, to his credit, at least he came prepared and well practiced to play the piano. Here's some food for thought: Might the Prime Minister consider a musical career once the Liberals oust him out of government? I wouldn't hold my breath! I have nothing left to say but this:
Please Mr. Harper, NEVER SING AGAIN!

1: The Liberals decry how the government is too partisan and doesn't work with the opposition and then when the government decides to work in a non-partisan manner, they get upset because he chooses to work with a party other than the Liberals.
ReplyDelete2: Harper was at this event to help celebrate the fundraising done by his wife Laureen to help support the arts, something which I know you are personally passionate about.
3: Major critics everywhere have been pretty much unanimous that although he couldn't hit the high notes, PM Harper gave an overall impressive performance that received a standing ovation from those present. So please Mr. Harper, give another presentation any time you feel like it.
Let's be honest here: his presence at this kind of event which, he himself was completely against in the 2008 election campaign, was another hypocritical move on the PM's part to try to gain back a few of the votes he may or may not have lost from the "Art's community" after announcing he would cut cultural funding.
ReplyDeleteI am absolutely passionate about the arts! I was also COMPLETELY opposed to the drastic cuts that Mr. Harper announced during the 2008 election campaign. NORMAL PEOPLE DO SUPPORT THE ARTS!
Political Pundits say that the Conservative Party might have won a majority government if the PM wouldn't have said he was going to cut cultural funding. I tend to disagree with those claims.
But, in all due respect to the PM, his piano skills have somewhat improved since he last unveiled his "musical" talents (quite awkwardly if I may add) to the media during that same 2008 election campaign.
1) "was another hypocritical move on the PM's part to try to gain back a few of the votes he may or may not have lost from the "Art's community" after announcing he would cut cultural funding."
ReplyDeleteThat is completely and utterly false. His aides and colleagues in the PMO were terrified of putting him out there but his wife thought it would be fun for the audience. He didn't do it to score political points, but I would much sooner guess to win brownie points from his wife. If this had been a PMO event, you know that the cameras would have filmed him from much better vantage points and they would have published a formalized, well-edited version on their own behalf.
2)"I was also COMPLETELY opposed to the drastic cuts that Mr. Harper announced during the 2008 election campaign"
Which cuts were those again? Once again, this cuts line was perpetuated by the mainstream media during the election, Harper's government actually increased total funding to the arts that year (although the main estimates were lower, the supplimental estimates in the fall put the overall year-long funding above the year previous... meaning an overall increase)
3) "Political Pundits say that the Conservative Party might have won a majority government if the PM wouldn't have said he was going to cut cultural funding. I tend to disagree with those claims."
What was actually said were comments aimed at "fancy, elite galas" and the like, saying that ordinary canadians don't care about those kinds of events. Look up the actual quote for yourself, don't let the MSM brainwash you...
